Europe warned of Russian invasion of Ukraine

The European Union warned Russia against unilateral military operations in Ukraine, which on Friday reported the dismantling of Russian armored vehicles on its territory, and warned about the readiness to tighten sanctions in the event of an escalation of the conflict.


The foreign ministers of the 28 countries of the European Union in a statement after talks in Brussels on Friday night expressed "growing concern about the deepening crisis in the east of Ukraine and humanitarian consequences for the civilian population."

"Any unilateral military action by the Russian Federation in Ukraine, under any pretext, including the human, will be considered by the European Union as a flagrant violation of international law," - said in a statement.

The EU confirmed its willingness to consider toughening sanctions against Russia "in the light of developments in the region."

British Prime Minister David Cameron in conversation with Ukrainian President Peter Poroshenko expressed "deep concern" about reports of penetration of Russian armored vehicles on the territory of Ukraine, said Downing Street.

"Russia should refrain from using the humanitarian convoy as an excuse for provocation", - the press-secretary of the statement Cameron once again demanded that the Kremlin demonstrate a commitment to a peaceful settlement.

Another leader of the "Big Seven", the French president, Francois Hollande demanded from Russia to respect the territorial integrity of Ukraine and urged the presidents of the two countries to take steps to de-escalate tensions.

Also called on the UN, saying that he can not verify the validity of posts on the penetration of Russian troops on Ukrainian territory and bombed.

"We are closely monitoring the situation. Such messages indicate the urgent need for immediate de-escalation and conflict resolution through dialogue," - said the representative of the UN Farhan Haq.

Attempts to resolve the conflict through diplomacy will continue over the weekend.
